Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman embarked on a three-day official visit to the Central African Republic (CAR) today.

The visit aims to inspect the Bangladeshi contingents currently stationed there under the UN peacekeeping mission.

His trip comes at a critical time when Bangladesh continues to play an essential role in global peacekeeping operations.

During his visit, General Waker-Uz-Zaman will not only be evaluating the activities of the peacekeepers but is also expected to inaugurate a community clinic built by the Bangladeshi soldiers to assist the local population in CAR.

This clinic is seen as part of Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to contribute to both peace and humanitarian services in conflict-torn regions.

Bangladesh has had a long-standing contribution to peacekeeping in the Central African Republic. Currently, there are five Bangladeshi contingents serving in the mission.

Since Bangladesh‍‍`s involvement began in 2014, an impressive total of 9,961 soldiers from the country have served in CAR, contributing to the mission‍‍`s efforts to restore peace in the war-affected region.

Tragically, 11 Bangladeshi soldiers have made the ultimate sacrifice, laying down their lives while performing peacekeeping duties in this challenging environment.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman‍‍`s visit is expected to highlight Bangladesh‍‍`s continued dedication to global peacekeeping missions, and the inauguration of the clinic will further demonstrate the country‍‍`s commitment to supporting the local communities in regions where they serve.

This visit underscores the significance of the Bangladesh Army’s role in international peacekeeping, with particular focus on providing both security and essential services to conflict-hit populations.
